The gift endows two annual $2,500 scholarships for students of funeral service and will be offered into perpetuity.

Brookfield, Wisconsin — The Funeral Service Foundation has generously accepted a $100,000 gift from long-time supporter Funeral Directors Life Insurance Company (FDLIC). The gift expands the Foundation Scholarship Program and underscores FDLIC’s commitment to the funeral service profession.

Front Row L-R: Kasi Welch-Baker; Mike Lemons, Pat Patton, Darrell Rains, and Leslie Branon Montz.

“The FDLIC Memorial Scholarship honors the memories of funeral service professionals who were instrumental in the founding and growth of Funeral Directors Life,” says President and Chief Executive Officer, Kris Seale. “This scholarship will help aspiring funeral service professionals receive the educational support they need as they embark on a fulfilling career in funeral service.”

This most recent gift is FDLIC’s third major gift in support of the Foundation; FDLIC was an early contributor to the Foundation’s Hand-in-Hand Endowment and has also supported various Foundation initiatives, often contributing via the annual Golf Classic. This year’s gift – the company’s single largest contribution – supports education, which is the bedrock of the Funeral Service Foundation’s mission of investing in people and programs to strengthen funeral service and lift up grieving communities.

The first FDLIC Memorial Scholarship winner will be named this spring as part of the Foundation Scholarship Program. The academic scholarship is awarded each spring and fall to a student of funeral service who demonstrates a strong commitment to the profession and to serving grieving families.

“Each year, the Funeral Service Foundation is proud to see students of funeral service take their first steps on their career journey, and the generous contribution from Funeral Directors Life ensures that we will be able to help even more top-notch students enter this profession,” says Foundation Chair Lisa Baue. “The Foundation is truly grateful to have such a generous partner in mission.”
